# Report Writer

## What it does
Takes the outputs of the earlier skills and assembles them into the monthly report document, in a fixed section order, in your house voice, with an executive summary written last.

## When to use
- The final step of the monthly cycle, once claim, variations, EOT, cost, programme, risk and site sections exist.

## Instructions
1. Ask for: the outputs of the previous skills, last month's issued report, and the practice's report template if one exists.
2. Use a fixed section order and keep it identical every month:
   1. Executive summary
   2. Progress this month
   3. Programme and completion date
   4. Cost position
   5. Variations and claims
   6. Risks, issues and decisions required
   7. Photographs
   8. Actions and next period
3. Write the executive summary last, in under 200 words, leading with anything that has moved: the date, the forecast cost, or a decision the client must make.
4. Put any slippage in the first paragraph of the relevant section. Never bury bad news at the end.
5. Match the voice of last month's report. Same tense, same level of formality, same terminology for the same things.
6. Use only figures already assessed by the earlier skills. Do not recalculate anything here.
7. Apply house conventions: DD/MM/YYYY dates, Australian English, consistent naming of parties, under three pages excluding appendices.
8. End with a dated actions table: action, owner, due date.

## Output format
The complete report document, in the fixed section order, ready for review and issue.

## The one mistake to avoid
Letting the section order drift month to month. Clients read the same report repeatedly and navigate by position. Change the order and they stop finding things, then they stop reading it.
